Introduction

Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent survey. We asked a series of questions around demo audio... how often artists refresh their material, how they approach editing, and what they think about our suggested banding system for demos on the site.

We’ve pulled together the results below. Our aim here is simply to share the numbers back with the community. We’ll be taking some time to review this feedback, together with the textual feedback.

Question 1. How do you normally approach updating your demo audio?

Question 2. If you do refresh your demos, how often do you typically make a change or addition?

Question 3. Do you have a favourite clip that you always keep on your demo audio because it consistently gets you work

Question 4. How do you currently edit your demos?

Question 5. Would you like guidance or tools on how to edit your own demo audio?

Question 6. How important is it to you that your demos contain only real client work?

Question 7. How easy is it for you to get hold of previous client work for demo purposes?

Question 8. Are you confident that the music used in your demos is properly licensed or cleared?

Question 9. How much time do you realistically spend reviewing and updating your demos per year?

Question 10. Do you think older clips should eventually be re-recorded (or removed) to ensure your tone still matches?

Question 11. Our proposed banding system for the main voice list: Band 1 - at least one demo < 12 months Band 2 - at least one demo < 5 years Band 3 - all demos > 5 years Do you think this system is fair and reasonable?

Question 12. For category-specific pages (e.g. eLearning, Corporate, Medical), we're proposing the following: Band 1 - the linked demo for that category is under 5 years old Band 2 - the linked demo is over 5 years old. Do you think this is a fair approach?

Question 13. Should semi-retired voice artists be automatically placed in Band 1 as an exemption?
